Are We Really Equal?

October 3rd, 2007

Are all people created equal? Do we really want to be equal? Think about “Harrison Bergeron” and how attempting equality negatively affects their society. Discuss your views appropriately.

I do think people are equal. Physically I don’t think everyone would like to be equal but as a person we are all equal. I think people are equal, yet not so equal. Some people are strong some are weak some are fat some are short. Either way god made us the same. Even if one is handicapped they might be smarter then another kid. Even though we look different doesn’t mean that we aren’t equal as people.

I do think in this world today, that all people are equal. But I dont think that everyone would like being the same. Some people in this world are fat, or skinny, tall or small, black or white, nice or mean, and pretty or ugly. But I think god made us all equally the same but we think just because someone is handicapped that, that person is not smart but they really could be. Even though in my opinion we all look different doesn’t mean that we are not all equal in some way.

Are people really equal? No people always are unequal because all people are different. So some people are better at things than others and some one will always have more money than you. So people can never be equal now most people are equal in a court of law but even then the other people that can afford the best lawyers are not equal. With all of this evidence I think that people will never be equal but this does not mean that we cannot respect are fellow man.

Do You Want to be Equal?

As citizens of the United States, we’ve all grown up learning about riots, arguments, and even wars all dealing with desire to be equal. We’ve grown up leaning that all people are created equally, and we are. We all have rights as humans, equal treatment under law, and respect for ourselves and others. Whether or not we want to be equal is the true question. I think we all want to be treated equally, but we don’t all want to be the same person. This statement meaning that we want to be able to be ourselves while still being treated equally. By being ourselves, we have individuality that sets us apart from everyone else, and this makes us more diverse. However, this also comes with the possibility of being unaccepted for who you are which can have negative effects. Some people may have a hard time accepting other people who are so different from themselves. This may result in a separation of groups of people, much like cliques in high school. This all comes back to the quality of being equal, but different. If it means to be yourself, but unaccepted by others, do you really want to be equal?
